Rental Support Program

Rent support funds are provided to Mill Valley workers who meet income and other qualifications under the program. Local employees are linked to Mill Valley home providers who make rental space available in apartments in their homes or accessory dwelling units (ADUs).

How it works

We work in partnership with Home Match, an affiliated program of Front Porch, to administer the rental support program.

Home Seekers

Renters with incomes below 65% of the median household income qualify.

Subsidy Amounts

Subsidies are targeted to keep rent at no more than 30% of the tenant’s monthly income with a maximum subsidy of $1,000/month.

Subsidy Payments

Subsidies are paid directly to the home provider as a grant. The tenant pays the reduced rent amount to the home provider.

Renters

A subsidy of up to $1,000/month to keep rental costs at or below 30% of Marin County Median Family Income is available to renters meeting these qualifications:

  • Income is below 65% of Marin County Median Family Income. For example, for a one person household, that income is $84,900.
  • Currently working in Mill Valley and living, or planning to live, in Mill Valley.

Community Impact

Our rental support program helps address the need for affordable housing for people who work in our community. It also provides supplemental rental income to homeowners, many of whom are seniors living on fixed incomes. These benefits can have a profound impact on communities by fostering financial stability, enhancing a more inclusive and vibrant community, and reducing homelessness. Local workers living locally also reduces commuting, thereby increasing our local workers’ time with family, while also reducing traffic and pollution. Helping local workers live locally helps us all!
