Community Housing Foundation Mill Valley

Helping Mill Valley workers to live locally.

Most people who work in Mill Valley cannot afford to live here. Our mission is to close that gap by means of our Rental Support Program. You can help, and benefit, by becoming a home provider.

Rental Support Program

Who benefits?

If we want our firefighters available to deploy onto a local disaster quickly, it’s imperative that more of them live within or at least closer to our community.
—Tom Welch, Mill Valley Fire Chief

I love Mill Valley, but I was prepared to be priced out due to my income…If it wasn’t for this group, I would not be able to live and immerse myself in the town I work in, and I’ll always be grateful that I do have that opportunity.

— CHFMV Beneficiary
Addressing imbalance of our employees having to live outside the valley will vastly improve the quality of life for staff and improve education in Mill Valley.
— Kim Kirley, Retired Teacher/Principal Park School
The vast majority of our employees at Mill Valley market have worked here for many years-decades but are not able to live here. That is not a healthy dynamic for our business community. To have workers living here would be a boon for the vitality of Mill Valley.

Equality

Everyone deserves a safe and stable place to live.

Economic Prosperity

Having stable housing supports economic stability and growth.

Health and Well-being

Living where you work reduces commute stress and contributes to better health and well-being for local workers.

Social Outcomes

When people live where they work, they build social connections that enhance the strength and vitality of the wider community.

Helping our senior citizens

The widening disparity between Social Security benefits and the cost of living is increasingly leading older individuals to face housing instability, displacement, and homelessness. Rental support programs help older community members remain in their homes by offering extra income from renters and alleviating social isolation.
